If the code could retain points values across mutiple runs, could it ( the code ) then be asked to scan say 2 and a half D object ( no cavity searches ) and store the profile information for later recreation of the object.
This ofcourse implies a different kind of probe construction, one which relies on internal to the probe contacts.
