OK, I have uploaded the fix. If you re-download the source or main file for 0.8.3 it should work with pretty much any RPF. Let me know if not.

Hi James,
You may have answered this previously but it is not clear to me why you couldn't simply assume that the machine positioned the tool close enough and use the x and y coordinates called for in the PFG GCode file? The RPF could be limited to log the Z values of each probe measurement.

Hi Gaston,
Mach3 gives me no option as to what gets logged in the probe file and what doesnt, it simply lists all axis values whenever the probe makes contact. In the gcode of the PFG it opens and closes the RPF with M40 / M41, I get no say as to what gets logged and in what format.

I could indeed do things as you say but that would require both the RPF and PFG to be read back into Autoleveller in order to get the assumed x and y values from the PFG file. Currently, only the RPF is needed to be read back into AL. In short its simpler this way :)

I didn't have any luck with the fix. I didn't select the option to create only the probe file, though, so this may be why. I leveled the engraving file, then tried to use the probe log so created on my pocketing file. The results were the same as before. I'll upload the RPF and PFG files. Oops. The system won't let me upload for some reason.

OK, I saw the problem with your RPF and have relaxed the tolerance a bit. Everything seems OK with my test files including your RPF.

Please re-download AL, try again and let me know if it works.

If there are further problems it may be necessary to make changes to the GUI and upload the PFG with the RPF as Gaston hinted at.

I started out with a small test file and it worked as described. But when I tried it with my circuit it did not. I didn't use the same PFG as before because my circuit has changed a bit. I'll upload the new ones in case you want to take a look.

I can see the problem I think and will work on it today. It is important to iron out these kinks as the probe files are an important addition to AL.

UPDATE: I have just updated AL and uploaded the fix. Please download and try again. Let me know how you get on :)

ADDITIONAL NOTE: I made some changes to the GUI yesterday so it might look different. The GUI changes are not finished yet but are purely cosmetic so dont be alarmed.

Excellent. No problem.

I am wondering though, what level of accuracy you have on your Z axis given the differences between mine and your RPF with the X and Y axis. If your Z axis is giving you inaccurate numbers then you may get a poor result when it comes to actually levelling.

It may be worth your time checking backlash on your machine to improve matters. I have anti-backlash nuts on each of my screws which all but eliminates backlash and this may be a reason for the differences between mine and your RPF results. Do you have anti-backlash nuts on your machine? It might be worth thinking about adding if not.

Hello James. The Z-axis on my machine is fairly accurate, typically <.0005" over the length of travel. I use anti backlash nuts also and have measured the backlash on my Z axis to be around .001". Even so, I still use backlash compensation in Mach3. Like we were talking about, I think backlash comp is the reason for the differences. I'm puzzled as to why an inaccurate Z-axis would lead to discrepancies in the x,y pos in the probe file. Nevertheless, using a 60 degree v-bit and a PCB jig which I haven't even bothered to level in reference to my machine, the results using autoleveller have been stellar. It's a fantastically useful program, and you have given hobbyists a real tool for making professional circuit boards consistently.
