What works with AL and AE and what doesnt?

Post by daedelus »

I have received a few emails and forum posts asking whether particular software controllers and control boards work with AE. Since I cannot test every combination, I decided to make this post to ask what your setup is and whether AL or AE works for you?

Some of the questions are answered on the FAQ page: http://www.autoleveller.co.uk/faqs/ but I am particularly interested in anyone with any unlisted controller such as UCCNC or a beaglebone board etc. and whether you can get AE to work for you and if you needed to work around some issue to do so.

From what I know:
  • Parallel port cards have fewer/no issues compared with USB ones
  • LinuxCNC works
  • TurboCNC works with AE but AL will need some tweaking first. For advise on this and any other TurboCNC questions, Art Eckstein "Country Bubba" is the man to ask.
  • Mach3 works (if you have a USB card, you may need to write a macro to get the correct probe results, see the FAQ page for more on this)
  • Mach4 also works but again you will probably need to write a macro, see FAQ page for more
  • GRBL doesnt work off the bat but if you can find some control software to record the probe results to file, then it should work with AE
So what is your setup and does it work with AE?

AL does not work with USB CNC. I used the information from this link (viewtopic.php?t=42), but I am still left with the error: "Error in GCode! Parameter out of range (15) Line:29 - #5161=#5422".
